New Minimally-Invasive Trampoline Facelift Gains Popularity

When the first signs of aging begin to emerge it’s usually in the neck area. Though the neck isn’t particularly noticeable normally, it can really contribute to an aged appearance which has led a number of celebrities and regular every-day people to seek out anti-aging treatments to address this area of the body. Though surgical neck lifts are possible, more Americans today are opting for procedures that are less invasive. The new trampoline facelift is one minimally invasive procedure that has recently become more popular as a way to create a younger appearance without all of the risks involved with surgery.

The trampoline neck lift was developed by a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon to get rid of a double chin without having to make an incision. Instead of incisions, ligaments along the underside of the jaw are punctured. Sutures are then inserted into the punctures and sewn together to tighten up the neck in a procedure that usually costs less than $7,000 and requires substantially less recovery than a more traditional surgical neck lift procedure.

The trampoline neck lift received FDA approval in 2009 and is currently available in Britain. It requires only about one-hour to complete the procedure. The plastic surgeon makes a series of punctures in a special pattern in the skin and then carefully weaves a surgical thread through the holes that have been made along the jawline. Specially designed fiber optic rods and sutures are used to increase precision. The holes are arranged such that they can be tightened much like shoe laces once the thread has been woven through them. The surgeon ties the sutures together to finally tighten up the skin in the neck and chin. The name of the procedure derives from the fact that the skin tightens in the neck in much the same way as the fabric of a trampoline when it’s properly stretched across a frame.

Some experts believe that this new way of treating sagging skin in the neck area could bring an end to invasive neck lift procedures. A trampoline neck lift can be performed under only local anesthesia, which is considerably less risky than the general anesthesia required during a full surgical neck-lift. In a surgically invasive neck lift procedure, there is a very real risk of nerve damage, infection and blood clots in addition to a fairly extensive recovery period of three months or longer. In comparison, the trampoline neck lift requires only about one week of recovery and very low chance of infection. Despite the many positive features of a trampoline neck lift, there are still risks involved with the procedure. Patients need to realize that though the procedure is minimally invasive, there is still a small risk of infection.

The trampoline neck lift is perfect for younger patients who are noticing premature aging or for patients who have excess fat in the neck area and don’t want to undergo a major surgery like the traditional neck lift. Patients with good skin elasticity and only a little bit of sagging in the cheeks are perhaps the best candidates for a trampoline neck lift. Those with jowling might be better off going with a traditional neck lift to fix the problem.
